Something to keep us occupied during the blizzard!

We have had the Ikea lampshade on the hall light for over a year now. While redoing the bathroom I hit it with the shower curtain rod and broke it. For the last 6 months it has been up there broken. I wanted to replace it with something interesting then somewhere online I saw lamps made with cocktail umbrellas--A-HA! So I went to Party America and got 2 packages of umbrellas. Due to our crazy busy life they have sat there for another 4 months. We have had an unprecidented weather event here in Oklahoma, 15 inches of snow. We have small cars so since Tues we have been at home. Seems like a good time to do a time consuming project!
My daughter and I worked on this together, we painted the inside of the umbrellas with Mod Podge--then cut off most of the stick--stuck it on the lamp and put more Mod Podge on top. A bit tedious at times but easy.
I LOVE it!! It's a bit kooky but fits well in our house!

One Little Word

I was inspired by Ali Edwards to choose a word for the year the past few years. Of course my horrible about sticking to stuff self did very little about it. This year I had planned on my word being Accomplish. The point of the word is to use it to inspire yourself through out the year on something you want to focus on. This year I have lots of things I want to accomplish.
Now I have a new word, something that meant more to me. A word that is not as snazzy I guess-a word that may inspire less art, but this word spoke to me so loudly I couldn't ignore it. Better--my inspiration for this word was from the BIL of Sen Giffords. In the wake of political rhetoric and blame(which on a side note I think is far less of an issue in this situation than the lack of focus on mental health in our society) He said "we are better than this, we can do better" This spoke to me on so many levels. It was something I needed to hear. I have tendency to come up with huge ideas, huge plans. I am the world's best starter! Finishing these grandiose visions, eh not so much. So I am just going to try to do better. I'm going to try to be a better person, a better wife, a better mother, a better friend , a better photographer...every day. Just always working towards who I want to be, to keep growing and changing. I can't keep with the promises to myself of being the most amazing at whatever I am doing, but I can be better than I was the day before. I ask this of my children all of the time, to just do THEIR best. So why can't I ask it of myself?
So this year my one little word---better

Vera Bradley Inspired Wristlet

Rosie has wanted a little wristlet to carry her phone, ipod and a few other things in. I am just not willing to pay Vera Bradley $30 for one--plus they don't have 2 pockets. So we made one this weekend. I just used several wallet tutorials online for ideas. My zipper sewing skills need some work, but I still think it's cute!

Gymnastics

Gymnastics is one of the most challenging situations to photograph. Low light, crowds, and fast movement, but it is still one of my favorite things to shoot. Freezing motion...a really fun challenge!

Well my Mama had a serious illness and very very sadly she passed away--I have taken some time off to try to deal with life and am getting back into the swing of things! My Mama was my best friend and the best Mom you could ask for--my whole life there was never a moment where I knew I was not totally and unconditionally loved...that is a blessing that will always be with me!
I am starting back with seniors--and will be taking bookings for Spring weddings--have a ton of posts to catch up on--but will do the most recent shoots first!

Portrait Party!!

Would you like to get together with your friends--let the kids play and have a chance to take pictures in a low stress fun setting? So here's the dealio(I just like to add io to everything now LOL!) You host the party at your home--you invite friends over--I bring lights, background, etc and take 20 minutes or so per child to take some lovely photos. You as the hostess get a free 8x10--there is no session fee but I do ask that everyone be willing to make a $20 minimum photo order. There is no money up front--you will be given a password protected gallery to view your prints and share with friends and family. Would be a great time to book a session to get Daddy's Day presents done!
I hear over and over how stressful studio pictures can be! Capturing your beautiful kiddos should be a fun and low stress time! They can be relaxed and have a good time and I can capture some great images!

WOW! It has been a FUN busy few weeks! Some gymnastics meets--fun pre-prom pictures and some seniors! Such great sessions..beautiful subjects who were willing to get a little crazy---ahhh just what I love! I'll do a few peeks here in a little while--
I am pretty booked until July--I have some weddings coming up and am looking forward to photographing some of the Tulsa area seniors!

2 G of storage and some great basic editing and sharing of photos! For all of those folks that took my classes..this replaces Picasa hands down! I love Photoshop and their products. This is a great, free, user friendly product--did I mention it was FREE??!!!

So I had a personal blog and a business blog that I kinda, sorta, ok well not at all kept up with!

Busy!! Holiday Card Mini-Sessions

So I have been busy!! Lots of shoots!! I am going to try to update the blog more regularly and there will be weekly chances to win things like free sessions and prints! So check back on a regular basis!
The next 2 Sat will be holiday card mini-sessions..I will have sign ups open by Wed. They will be 20 min mini-sessions with 3-5 poses to use with a wide variety of choices to make your holiday cards(you can even get your name printed on them so all you need to do is mail them!) The first will be outdoor sessions--in my craziness I will be setting up an outdoor living room in a beautiful location--more detail on that tomorrow! Then the next Sat will be indoor sessions--2 backdrops--a beautiful cream on cream damask--elegant! And a funky giant polka dot that I love! Again more details tomorrow--
I also am starting a mailing list--as of now with the exception of some people I have already talked with I am booked until Feb of 2008. I have a few sessions booked for then and am taking appts. I will be offering special sweetheart sessions in Feb so look for details on that closer to time. In addition to regular sessions I will regularly be offering mini-sessions..things like photo purse sessions around Mother's Day--the purses are SO cute--
Anyway I am glad things are going well--My family has been fantastically wonderfully supportive!! Trying hard to find that elusive balance in life! I have such a hard time with that--like right now I am writing on the blog when I should be cleaning the house and starting school--OK now I have to get to it! Sometimes it's just so hard to get excited about dishes!
